Things Your Cat Doesn’t Care About

October 01, 2024

If you’re late with your cat’s breakfast, does she become a furry, meowing diva? Is Fluffy a little pushy about her toys, lap space, or playtime expectations? Clearly, our feline companions take certain things very seriously. Other things? Not so much. This article includes a list of some of them from a local Galloway, OH veterinarian.

Your Furniture

Cats are experts of making themselves at home. Fluffy will not hesitate to drape herself across the back of your sofa or sit in the middle of the room to clean herself. She is also not hesitant about doing her nails on your couch or chair.

Don’t be irritated with your pet for these oversights! Your kitty companion is not attempting to ruin your belongings on purpose; she is simply compelled by nature to maintain her nails sharp. This makes perfect sense. After all, cats rely on their claws to survive in the wild. Fluffy’s paw daggers are her primary means of protection. They also let her climb for cover and safety, catch her dinner, and write kitty graffiti on tree trunks.

Your Agenda

Have you ever been awakened up by a grumpy feline? Your furry overlord will not accept a late breakfast. She can also wake up her humans in the middle of the night by pouncing on their toes.

If your pet becomes rowdy and lively while you are trying to sleep, try playing with her before bedtime. Fluffy will most likely be exhausted after a vigorous play session and in need of another nap.

Your Comfort

Speaking of snoozing, does your pet manage to take up the entire bed while you are relegated to a strip on the edge? We’re guessing the answer is yes for many of you. Fluffy, on the other hand, isn’t really concerned.

Petiquette

Fluffy can be quite kind and affectionate, which contributes to her ability to melt our hearts. She can also be rather temperamental, biting or scratching unexpectedly. When you call your kitty friend, she may purposefully ignore you.

Your House Plants

Many cats enjoy sniffing and nibbling on green leaves. Fluffy looks beautiful as she peeks out from behind bushes and pretends to be a dangerous tiger! To be honest, plants do provide enrichment for cats. Your cat will benefit from being able to smell and taste leaves. They also assist to clean the air and make your home appear lovely and warm.

Fluffy isn’t bothered about the plants’ well-being. She has a habit of completely killing certain plants, such as Spider plants, and has been known to knock them over.

Just remember to put safety first. Only set out plants that are safe for your kitty companion. The ASPA has a fantastic list of them here. You should also be careful when arranging plants. Avoid holders with dangling ropes. Your pet may play with the dangling part of the macrame holder, maybe causing the plant to fall on her. Keep heavier pots at floor level.

Their Canine Roommates

Fido and Fluffy’s relationship has been difficult throughout the years, with many ups and downs. In some houses, they have grown pretty close. It’s always cute to witness a loving, calm dog let a kitten pounce on his tail or sleep on his back!

Of course, there are occasions when things get a little rocky. While the dog is usually the aggressor, the cat can also be the bully! Fluffy is also not afraid of taking dogs’ beds, batting their noses, or even striking them in the face!

Your Career

While many things have recovered to pre-pandemic levels, the use of video conferencing is unlikely to decline. We don’t have a precise tally of how many of our feline patients have disrupted their owners’ zoom calls or walked on their laptops, but it’s safe to assume that the figure is not zero.

However, cats will occasionally assist their owners while they work. If you work from home, your cat may be an excellent coworker. Even if she occasionally attempts to nap on your keyboard. We recommend setting a relatively short screen lock period, such as 15 seconds. That will lessen the likelihood that every time you walk away, your pet has caused havoc on whatever you were working on.

Visiting Their Galloway, OH Veterinarians

Many of our feline friends aren’t delighted to see us. We understand entirely. The automobile travel accounts for a significant portion of this. While our canine patients like going for drives, cats prefer to stay within their own kingdoms. In fact, many cats are more concerned with the travel to the clinic than with their appointments! We do everything we can to make things simpler for our lovely patients, making appointments short, simple, and comfortable for them. However, our attempts to convince Fluffy that adequate veterinarian care will make her healthier—and, ultimately, happier—have failed.

Your pet’s veterinary care requirements will alter throughout time, so heed your veterinarian’s advice. That being said, we urge that all cats be microchipped, spayed or neutered, and maintained up to date on vaccines, checkups, and parasite management. In between appointments, keep an eye out for indications of illness. If you observe anything out of the ordinary, contact your veterinarian.

The Laws of Physics

Cats are unique for a variety of reasons. They’re not only adorable and personable, but also really funny. Kitties’ ability to hop, bend, and twist is one of the things that makes them so interesting. Fluffy’s acrobatics are incredible! We know that cats are exceptionally flexible because of their unusual skeletal structure. They have quite small clavicles, for starters. They also have more space between vertebrae than most animals, so their spines can move more freely. Furthermore, their shoulder blades are muscle-attached rather than bony.

Putting that aside, some of their daring gymnastics make us wonder! There’s also the fact that these small balls of fur can sleep comfortably in positions typically associated with knots.

Wildlife

Kitties are noted for their hunting skills. We first befriended them because of their ability to catch rodents and other varmin. Fluffy, on the other hand, does more than just kill to get her meal. She thinks it pretty humorous.

While it’s adorable to see how proud your cat is when she puts a dead mouse at your feet, there’s also reason to be cautious. It turns out that our kitty buddies are adorable little serial killers. House cats destroy billions of small animals each year! Given how many species are imperiled or endangered, this raises serious concerns. We propose that you keep your furry little murderess inside and give her catnip mice to hunt instead of real ones.
